before i write a single number, the date goes at the top — so the money has a day attached to it, not a vague feeling.

then i write down what i actually spent, in my own handwriting, slowly enough to notice it.

the page is finished when the pen stops. i close the notebook and i don't reopen the thought until tomorrow.
